Well spotted Dakota. I can only assume Poppy is on holiday.

Dawyck is 28 miles south of Edinburgh on the B712, 8 miles south-west of Peebles and just around the corner from Stobo Castle. We got there a little too late for the displays of rhododendron and azalea but had an interesting afternoon nevertheless. Well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity.

We were on holiday last week at Loch Tummel near Pitlochry for a change this year. The weather was good (never too hot nor too cold) and it was very relaxing. The caravan site we stayed at was at Tummel bridge which was 13 miles from Pitlochry and the roads were very narrow with plenty of sharp bends (had a couple of near misses). We went to a few places including Piltochry, Blair Atholl castle, the distillary, Aberfeldy and Loch Rannoch. Anyway, here are a few photos that I took while we were there

We have spent many a Hogmany in a lodge at the River Tilt Park, just two minutes from Tummel Bridge, in Blair Atholl. It is a very picturesque area of Scotland, particularly when covered in a blanket of snow. You can sit by the roaring open fire in the Atholl Arms and admire the scenery from this cosy haven. The River Tilt park has a swimming pool with sauna etc., It is great swimming in the warm water and looking out the windows to see the cold crisp snow on the ground. There is also an excellent 4* restaurant called The Loft on the site. A very peaceful setting with numerous country walks. Sledging in the grounds of Blair Castle is fun. I would highly recommend the River Tilt Park to anyone interested in a short break, summer or winter.

I love that area too, we once had a lovely caravan holiday about three miles south of Pitlochry. The site had about three cottages and half a dozen or so caravans in the grounds of a big house. It was so safe for the children and they had great fun exploring the grounds, chasing chickens and rabbits (not to mention the kittens which I am sure were half wildcat).
Mr TG loved his visit to the Edradour Distillery where they make the House of Lords whisky (you can't buy it anywhere else) For a few years we had an annual sojurn up there just so he could buy it but haven't done so for a while now. I'm not sure that they still actually make it.

It's inland and here's a photo of the interior - it was pretty scary getting out through the upper "door" in the back as you have to stretch over from the l/h side. My rucksack hit the top of the doorframe and it could have knocked me into that race! :pale:

No. Much closer! It's in the Gore Glen near Gorebridge. Totally unexpected place. I've been trying to find out more about it. There are routemaps of walks close by but not this bit of the South Esk.
