Hello everyone. Thank you for your lovely welcome. Even the resident grump, Ali (is that short for Alistair or long for Al?) I'll find out more about the rest of you as I go along I suppose and vice versa.

And as for Nelson Hatstand. Bing Bong?? Are you trying to do a Leslie Philips impression like that??

My bf thinks he's being incredibly funny when he does Hello and Ding Dong. He's not!

Its short for muhammad actually, after the greatest boxer who ever lived.

He was a gifted poet too.

""Ding! Ali comes out to meet Frazier
But Frazier starts to retreat
If Frazier goes back any further
He'll wind up in a ringside seat

Ali swings to the left
Ali swings to the right
Look at the kid
Carry the fight

Frazier keeps backing
But there's not enough room
It's a matter of time
Then Ali lowers the boom

Now Ali lands to the right
What a beautiful swing!
And deposits Frazier
Clean out of the ring

Frazier's still rising
But the referee wears a frown
For he can't start counting
Till Frazier comes down

Now Frazier disappears from view
The crowd is getting frantic
But our radar stations have picked him up
He's somewhere over the Atlantic

Who would have thought that
When they came to the fight
That they would have witnessed
The launching of a coloured satellite!"

Messalina wrote:And as for Nelson Hatstand. Bing Bong??

I can assure you that "Bing Bong" sums up the situation quite accurately, as you'll find out.

er, it was ding dong, but I thought I'd give the letter B a try-out.

I can't do any impressions, apart from a semi-accurate Richie Benaud and a quite good Henry's Cat. (They're pretty much the same.)

Hi welcome ,Messalina.
Is the name from the wife of Claudius as in Robert Graves I Claudius or from Alfred Jarrry's works?

It is indeed from the wife of Claudius, Valeria Messalina. No doubt you've googled it.

Because I went through so many bf's (see the First Love thread), my mother started calling me Messalina. Intrigued, I researched it and went through even more bf's, so my mother kept calling me it.

Five years ago I changed my name by Deed Poll to Messalina, much to my mother's dismay.

Bring on the guys I say! :D

Welcome Messalina. My OH just saw your avatar and said "she must be cold at this time of year, dressed like that." Maybe the wiggling keeps you warm? :?:

:D
If you changed your name by deed poll, you're not from these parts, are you? Or at least, weren't here five years ago?

Hi Messalina, just got caught up on the boyfriend thread.

I'd googled ,a while back, Jarry as I was intrigued by a character in The sacred art of stealing by Christopher Brookmyre. Just remembered in one of Jarry's 'pataphysical works Messalina was included. I also have a very well thumbed copy of I Claudius. Well thumbed as I kept having to check who was related to who.

My sister changed her name by deed poll but not to anything as interesting as yours!

Now look here, furniture boy ....... I haven't insulted you ...... don't do it to me. Even if I was English (which I'm not!) don't get racist. I don't like that kind of thing. Even as a joke. Anyway, I bet you have a wart or carbuncle or three you didn't want to talk about! :P

And I didn't give you permission to call me Messa or Messie or Mess either. Desist ..... or I'll find out where you live!

It'll be Messalina ...... or Divine One ........ until you all get to know me a little better.

When people jump to conclusions in Portobello, they must do it from a very great height, perhaps the belltower???

I was warned by an admin certain of you would do this and look, it's the usual suspects. :D

Guess again boys.

Isn't Ali Cleo??? I thought that was the current theory?

Well apart from the sex change, the style, timing and posting rate is so remarkably similar, it's hard not to jump to that particular conclusion...IMHO

quote Cleopas

"Please don't call me Cleo .... I'm gay ... not a girl! And as for being absorbed .... how absorbent do I have to be? I ask because my vacuum is broken and no longer sucks!

Cleopas also said

"Whine??? I asked you (and everyone else) never to call me Cleo ... that's not a whine, it's a request. My family don't do it ... no-one else has my permission to either ... capisce?
