POD is a group of local people, formed in 2003 and aims to promote culture and the arts in Portobello. We
involve the talents and interests of other local people by producing events, classes and social opportunities;
drawing from aspects of culture using such forms as art, theatre, music, writing, dance; to name a few.
For the last few years we have taken the lead in running The Portobello Village Show which this year will
be held on SUNDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER. One of the main features has been the traditional produce and crafts
show -we like to think we do this with a bit of a difference and a sense of humour and participation. There are
also games and other activities for children and adults (the now famous Tug of War) music, a dog show and
stalls hired to local people and organisations to either promote a group or to sell items such as local fruit and
veg or crafts or second hand clothes. Last year we even had a pedal powered Cinema. There is usually a bar
and a cake and tea tent.
Portobello has a great feeling of community – and we try and promote this with events such as this. However
we realise there are many groups around who might not know much about the show and might be interested in joining in by running part of the show or just a stall on the day. We would like to hear from you if you or a community group you are involved in would like to take part in some way.
In the first instance contact info@the-pod.org to sound your idea out.
There is a small charge for taking a stall (the amount varies depending on what you are doing). We're keen to
have new ideas and activities that we might not have thought of before. Please also see the POD website for
some pictures of previous Village Shows (under previous events)
