EDWARD HOLLIS, Author and Lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art, talks to STUART KELLY, Literary Editor of Scotland on Sunday, about Portobello’s gothic architecture.

12.30-1.30pm LIBRARY PAPERLESS PUBLISHING
LYNSEY MAY shares tips for writing and publishing online. Lynsey’s fiction has featured in both on and offline publications, including Metazen and New Writing Scotland.

JANICE GALLOWAY
This event, chaired by CLAIRE ENGLISH, will be recorded for Radio Scotland’s Book Café. Janice will discuss her latest book All Made Up with members of Portobello’s book groups. Open to all.

1.45-3.15pm OLD PARISH CHURCH THE LIVING PAST - A Double Bill
MILLIE GRAY’S third book, Crystal's Song chronicles Leith from the war onwards with gritty realism and humour. MARGARET IRVINE’S Tenterfield: My Happy Childhood in Care recounts fond memories of a children’s home in Haddington.

MAKING COMICS workshop
Learn how to create memorable characters, tell stories using words and pictures and get your comics into the world, with Edinburgh League of Comics. FUMIO OBATA, who mixes European and Japanese influences, TOM HUNT, comic book editor and EDWARD ROSS, specialist in non fiction and autobiographical comics will be on hand.

Coastal Rowing in Scotland. Rowers past and present talk about the recent enthusiasm for rowing in Portobello and beyond.

CANDIA MCWILLIAM, acclaimed novelist and Booker Prize judge. Her recent memoir What to Look For In Winter records her experience of blindness. Candia will share her ideas on writing with aspiring local writer CAROLYN BECKET.

ART IN THE COMMUNITY - THE PRESTONPANS TAPESTRY
ANDREW CRUMMY specialises in large scale collaborative art works. The Prestonpans Tapestry is a wonderful example, bringing together art, heritage and the community

DOUG JOHNSTONE, writer, musician and journalist, talks to Allan Guthrie about his new novel Smokeheads. This event includes a whisky tasting in collaboration with the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

IAN EDWARDS, Botanist and Head of Events at Royal Botanic Gardens will discuss his latest book Woodlanders: New Life in Britain’s Forests.

3.00-4.00pm LIBRARY
DEBATING HEALTH, WEALTH AND WELLBEING
Panel: JOHN DICKIE, Child Poverty Action Group; STEWART MERCER, Professor of Primary Care, Glasgow University; ANNE O’DONNEL, Mental Health Activist. Join a discussion about connections between health, wealth and wellbeing.
