Volunteer Centre Edinburgh is recruiting volunteers to take part in a project run in partnership with Places for People Scotland Care & Support.
Community Connecting volunteers will be matched with an older person in their local community who is socially isolated. Over a 4 month period, the volunteer will help the older person reach goals to gain confidence. These could be as varied as building confidence using buses, trying new social activities in the community, or attending a class, until the older person feels comfortable going alone. Volunteering may be done in the older person’s home, or in the local community as required.
Spending just a couple of hours a week could make a dramatic difference to the quality of an older person's life. In turn, you will get to know your neighbours, learn more about your community and gain an understanding of older people's issues.
Volunteers will come from a wide range of backgrounds, and have many different skills and interests. The only requirements are an interest in helping an older person, a sense of humour, patience, reliability and a willingness to commit to a minimum of 6 months. We are looking for volunteers in the North East or South West edinburgh areas. Full training will be given. PVG membership, and 2 references will be required. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
If you are interested in finding out more, or would like to become a volunteer, please feel free to contact Gwen James at Volunteer Centre Edinburgh, gwen.james@volunteeredinburgh.org.uk, or 0131 225 0630
Thank you.
