Young Edinburgh performers turn circus tricks and breakdance down the city’s newest cycle path

Ahead of next weekend’s Edinburgh Mela, a group of young performers from the North Edinburgh group G Force will be livening up the city’s newest cycle path, Route 10 (between Leith Links and Portobello) with a spectacular breakdance, circus and parkour show at various points along the route.

This year, the Edinburgh Mela is going green, with a number of campaigns aimed at reducing the festival’s environmental impact. The Mela is working with City of Edinburgh Council to promote healthier alternatives like cycling and walking to the festival, and Route 10, the newly-opened Portobello to Leith cycle route, seems like the perfect place to start! There will be increased cycle parking on-site at this year’s Mela, with a dedicated mechanic giving all bikes a free once-over, and prizes and info for those who might be interested in cycling at CEC’s onsite Cycle Hub.

G Force are a group of young people who have benefitted from free training in circus skills, hip hop, breakdance and parkour from the Edinburgh Mela and Bright Night International, in association with the Cashback for Communities scheme. Over the last few months they’ve become a professional-standard performance troupe, and will be performing at the Mela World Dance Feste on Sat 31 Aug.

The media call is for the first point of the roaming performance, on John's Place at Leith Links. From there, the performance will move along the cycle path to different locations.
