I had a very useful conversation at Ocean Terminal yesterday with Sara Thiam, Overall Project Manager and Kate Evans, Edinburgh Project Manager for the Waterfront project. They are the Council workers who used the Heriot Watt students to collect some initial information. This project encompasses the North European Waterfronts including Newcastle, Hull, Holland, Germany, Sweden, Denmark .
They have European funding to produce a FULLY documented plan to create sustainable, economically vibrant and socially inclusive waterfront areas in european cities and to reconnect the city to the sea. This funding extends up to 2007.
Edinburgh's specific theme is the Integration of Waterfront development with City and Regional strategic objectives. Each partner has separate themes e.g. Gateshead has - 21st century city-living for Europe: Mixed use with affordable housing.
Sara and Kate would like to meet with people in Portobello to understand our views for Portobello. I think the first step should be via the Portobello Community Council before widening it to the whole Community.
