Please find my monthly report attached. I have also added a report, which Councillors get from the local police. It has some useful advice and contacts on the last page. It also has an indication of what priorities they have agreed to focus on this month, as a consequence of a recent meeting of the Community Safety Sub Group of the Portobello/Craigmillar Neighbourhood Partnership. I want to highlight that POPP - Portobello Older People's Project needs volunteers, particularly on a Tuesday. If you or anyone you know might be able to spare a few hours a week to help look after our vulnerable elderly people, do contact the project coordinator, Rita Aitken on 01620 843 484 or email her at ritaaitken@talktalk.net.

Portobello Library is open between 5pm and 8pm this coming Saturday (5 March) to celebrate 'World Book Day'. Among other attractions, there will be free books.
The Craigmillar Community Lunch last week had a presentation for a new program to help people who need help keep in touch with family and carers. Caring in Craigmillar (CIC) have chance of getting this service free for a time if they gain enough on-line votes. Voting is open until the 24 March at:

The next Portobello Organic Market will be on Saturday 5 March, 10am-2pm in Brighton Park. Delicious seasonal vegetables, locally reared meat, freshly baked bread and many more tasty treats are available. Portobello Organic Market compliments Portobello’s already vibrant and thriving High Street, selling local and organic fruit, veg, meat, baking, and more. Although food is the core of the market, we also include a selection of local crafts and other organic products. The PEDAL (Portobello Transition Town) stall will be there with all our project information too, and on hand to ask any questions.

The railway bridge repair works have started at the junction of Milton Road with Brunstane Road. The works will strengthen the bridge and allow the temporary traffic island to be removed. The works are expected to take four-five weeks to complete. At first, the traffic management did not seem to cause an excessive delay at peak times (and I have been through it once by car) but the situation will be monitored the situation and the traffic signals adjusted if necessary. Do let me know if you have problems.

Work has also begun at the Niddrie Mains Road junction with the Wisp and Duddingston Park South to create another lane at this key junction and to upgrade the traffic lights to make the road system run more efficiently at peak periods. The works are causing huge delays, and will conitue to do so for the next five weeks until the work is complete. Let's hope the pain is worth the gain!
