I'm back. I've been away. More later.
And you're right, there should have been something in there about Cumberland sausage. And CUFC. And, specifically, I can't believe that there was no mention of Stan Bowles. Or Gale Porter for that matter. Or Fay Fife.
To explain about the flower thing: the exciting bit is that you get to spend huge sums of (someone else's) money on a perishable commodity, something that will be dead in a matter of days, in the hope of turning a profit on a ridiculously low margin. I remember one particular afternoon a few weeks prior to Xmas drinking large volumes of whisky with the then manager, trying to work out what to order. We extrapolated wildly from one particular customer's advance order and ended up buying about five times more than we could possibly hope to sell. A learning experience for me and another nail in the coffin for him. Have you seen the flower auction at Aalsmeer? It is (or at least was) the largest covered building in the world. The buyers there can make and lose fortunes and are usually burned out within a few years.
