Well you'd have to ask POD now, wouldn't you?

My limited contribution to POD is as a mere dogsbody at the Village Show, putting up marquees and the like alongside, as it happens, a number of PPAG supporters.

Have you any idea how difficult it is to put up a marquee with people who won't look at you, let alone speak to you? It's a challenge, I can tell you.

Will you be working your way through every group and organisation in Portobello, denouncing every one that either objected on what you think are the wrong grounds or made no comment at all?

I'm not in a position to deny or confirm anything since it's nothing to do with me.

But if they let in clowns like the Brighton Park Massive they can't be too choosy about who's allowed in.

I may be wrong but I think I recall a POD event where they wouldn't allow stall hire to PFANS or PPAG, as they didn't want to court aggro or accusations from the likes of Batty, which would go something like this...

" So Sean why was it PFANS had prime pitch and a f****** Marquee at the viilage fair whilst PPAG had a collapsible table on the bank of the Figgy? Don't you think thats odd for a group which claims .....(insert one or two out of context sentences here) ....on their website?

That's the trouble with trying to get a handle on what groups like POD and PEDAL are all about. If you take time to read their mission statement, you may just grasp why they don't have a zero tolerance to building a school on less than 8% of a poorly used park. If you don't bother investigating the group; use your imagination to construct what they may be about, extract a few out of context statements from their website in support of your fantasy- then its little wonder you then find their actual behaviour "beggars belief" or their stance "hypocritical".

If you simply make up what a group stands for it should not come as a surprise when they don't act in the manner you expect.

I think most people know that the driving force behind POD is Joe Madden and also that Diana and Stephen are involved. We all know where D and S stand on the issue. Joe is the guy on the left in the photo below. We may disagree on this issue but he's a top bloke and has made a huge contribution to Portobello over many years. I find it difficult to believe that POD denied PPAG a table at the Village Show, but if the organisers felt that PPAG's presence at a family event was inappropriate and likely to create bad feeling then I would have to agree and applaud that decision.

And I did say not a problem as they do look like nuggets stood there with that terrible banner!!! It looks like the usual healthy turn out of the 'majority' of the community supporting PPAG again!!!

The 'nugget' in the red jacket is Bruce Kidd, the triathlon guy. Don't recognise the other person but I'm happy to confirm that it is not Epykat.

Surely I'm not the only person in Porty who thinks it's outrageous that a group that actually calls themselves "Portobello OPEN Door" would exclude a community group who represent a significant number of people in the community from taking a table at the "village" show.
Is the "door" only open to those who agree with the council's landgrabbing?
