Whoa, slow down. Kitcheners has never had a toy box and the only reason the staff dont frown on people bringing kids in is they never notice customers until they have sat being ignored for the statuatory 5 to 10 minutes.In reality both places are on the small side for prams or buggies.

My tactic for Kitcheners is to play the daft laddie and just walk up and give my order, pretending I don't know it's table service. 9 times out of 10 they just take the order. The other 1 time they say "if you just take a seat" etc

One of the problems of table service is that one customer looks very much like another, and it's easy to mistake an irate new customer sitting at a table with dirty dishes on it for the original occupant sitting with his/her original dishes.

It's also easy to get it wrong as to whether it's counter service or not, so I solve all of these problems by wearing an enormous daft grin and staring at the staff until they serve me.

Thats not the only problem. Table service gets in the way of back shop preparation of mini-quiche and noodle wraps. I love to watch a queue of totally bewildered prospective customers looking at each other to see if anyone knows what going on? Then they ask for a Ham Salad Italian Roll and WOOSH before you know it the sales assistant is nipping over to the fruit shop or Scotmid for ingredients.

My son and I enjoy going to the cafe at the indoor pool. It's lovely to sit near the window and look out over the beach, especially on a sunny day, although there's so much more that could be done to make it a more pleasant place. The coffee there is surprisingly good, always piping hot and cheap compared to the BBC.
Unfortunately, the food doesn't look that inspiring and all the cakes and biccies are pre-packed.
Does anyone else remember some years back when the cafe was run by a couple of women, one of whom was local? The food was superb and the home baking ruined all attempts at burning off the calories in the pool!

As far as I know its still the same people who own it!

The woman also runs the Clothes Shop at the top of Bellfield Street - Maybe just me - but the majority of the stuff is overpriced and normally could do with a good ironing.

Although to give them their due - I was told that they did rescue one of their Old English Sheepdogs from Spain, which was kind.
