Grennan and Sperandio’s ‘Giant Avatar of Portobello’

Big Things on the Beach present the second of three 2010 Imagine Porty Prom art commissions!
International artist team Grennan + Sperandio asked locals ‘If Portobello was a character, what character would it be?’ to help them to create a six metre high inflatable sculpture that captures the spirit of Portobello, Edinburgh...

The Avatar (a character taking a different form) aims to capture the spirit of Portobello and is being launched during the May Day holiday weekend at the following sites:

Saturday 1 May 2pm - 6pm: Portobello Beach, foot of Kings Rd
Sunday 2 May 2pm - 6pm: Portobello Beach, foot of Pitville St
Monday 3 May 10am - 2pm: Portobello High Street, outside Bank of Scotland

Please note that if weather is poor, the Avatar will be displayed inside Portobello Town Hall, 147 Portobello High Street. Check www.bigthingsonthebeach.org.uk or call 0131 669 7559 to confirm on the day.



Come and meet the artist! Artist Simon Grennan will give a short Artist’s Talk on Sunday 2 May 6.30pm at the Portobello Public Art House, west end of the prom at 56 Kings Road.

Grennan + Sperandio and Imagine Porty Prom exhibitions are also on display at the Portobello Public Art House Thursday 29th April - Sunday 23rd May - Thursdays, Fridays 10am - 6pm and Saturdays, Sundays 1pm - 6pm. A programme of changing displays continues at the Public Art House until September 2010, with free entry to all events and exhibitions.
