Hi All

Wonderful to see so many interesting and useful posts on the board since I last visited!



I've been considering trying to set up (with others) a Neighbourhood Watch scheme. I live in Mentone Ave and wondered if anyone esle is interested or has experience which may be useful. I love lving in Portobello but I dread each summer because of the amount of criminal behaviour during the holidays and the evenings. I have seen more bobbies out and about during the day and early evening which is to be encouraged but fewer once the night sets in and chaos reigns on the High St and elsewhere.

I for one am very tired of calling the Gala Bingo Hall and Scotmid, whose numbers are programmed into my phone, to report that they have criminal activity in the form of under age drinking, drug use and vandalism going on behind or in the alleyways of their premises. From my house I watch the kids involved play hide and seek with the managers of these businesses and the police.

I'd like to help to try and set up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme and hope to pop by our Police Station (if it's open) to pick up the relevant paper work but would want to manage such a venture with others so the task is shared. Bob has helpfully provided me with the name of someone who used to run a Residents Association (thanks Bob) but I've yet to get in touch with her. Are there any folk out there who may be able to help so that we can take action to reduce trouble?

I live in Ramsay Place and am also tired of calling the police re under age drinking, vandalism etc. I would be interested in a Neighbourhood watch scheme.

I'll drop you a line when I get a sec. In a way while it is disheartening that there is the need to have to call the police it is good to know that I'm not the only one who does it!

Is there anyone else out there interested the in Neighbourhood Watch ideas, or even better folk with a bit of experience!
