Another good new eaterie in Portobello

On Saturday, El Presidente (Rtd) and I went to sample the new restaurant at the Foresters Arms. It was VERY good.

We had thought it would be the usual pubfare [not that there's anything wrong with that!], but there was a nice selection of beef, chicken, fish, oriental and pasta dishes. No pizza though!

Good service too. And the chef came to our table to discuss my moo's milk allergy which was a good sign.

Only open at lunch time and from 6.30 to 8 in evening, but the chap said that they would be opening later if they get the demand/customers. And certainly they did not turn away a group of four who came in at 7.50!

It's cheaper than Sizzlers and less crowded - and you cannot hear the bar! Which was just as well as we were told that Mr Lizzie and others were 'singing' cowboy songs. :roll:

This is good to hear, Poppy. Must give it a try. I was checking through the eateries in the Portobello Directory and reolised how well Porty is doing in this area.

Well reminded, DG, about the Directory! .... I mentioned it to the chap [= maitre d'/waiter] and he said they [=him+chef] would be interested - so whoever's responsible should git their ass along there PDQ! :wink:

Forgot to say that they rent the kitchen and lounge from the pub, so really you pay them for the food and the bar for the drink!!

The Forresters have been doing lunches for quite a while now, since Mr Kelly sold it. Evening menu has been fairly recent.

I would reccommend the Forresters for a meal, good food, reasonable prices and the waiter (Keith) is a pleasent chap too!

Poppy thanks for that - will try lunch at the weekend.

Last time we were at Dalriada for tapas wasn't impressed - small portions at huge prices. Tasty enough though but not value for money.
