sound recording equipment

Could bob and anyone else please give me some info on sound recording equipment? I've been told I need to buy a good quality "tape recorder" and some "audio tapes". Looking back, I think I vaguely remember this technology - and what i remember is a lot of hissing and a lot of brown stuff spewing out and wrecking decks.... I was wondering about digital recording equipment, what's on offer, what's good, what's compact and bijou and non-intrusive, how terribly expensive it might be... I need to record interview type things (need sensitive equipment with good multi-directional pick up or something) and was wondering if there's anything I can use that can then be uploaded to my laptop and thence burned onto cd for better quality. Like what Bob bought? Or if in the end I'll have to spend money on this:

Bellybabe, I can certainly recommend the . A useful feature of this type of device is that you can use it in conjunction with voice recognition sofware to save you the laborious task of transcribing your interviews. And being digital, it's easy to edit your audio files.

For optimum sound quality you might want to invest in an external mike, though the built in stereo mike works fine for most purposes. Happy to give you a demo if you like, or a loan to try it out for yourself.
