Inspired by the belly dancing on the beach recently, Froglette and I bought tickets for the Bellydance Banquet, a fringe show taking place in the Morocco Walima restaurant. It's a 3 course Moroccan lunch with bellydancing entertainment from Lorna Gow, who takes classes in Porty Swim Centre, Musselburgh and elsewhere.
Lunch was great and Lorna, who has a regular Friday night slot at the Walima, moves in the most beguiling manner. But don't take my word for it, the Scotsman gave it a four star rating.
Not surprisingly, the show is selling out fast. Grab a ticket while you can. Ends 29 August.
This would be a great venue for a forum members night out. It's not that big so maybe we could book the whole place?
What made the show interesting was the compere, Nick Child on this occasion, who gave us a little background to the bellydancing tradition and how it has developed in recent times.
And yala beena? It means 'go girl!' I'll be trying to fit it into as many conversations as poss from now on.
