Anyone know what going on?
I heard a few sirens earlier and see high viz jackets.

Can you see the inflatible RNLI craft, SD, must be opposite you? There's a chap who won't come in" and has, apparently, been there for an hour or so! So there are polis, coastguard, Royal Navy and RNLI along at the old paddling pool!

They seem to have got him into the boat and dropped along at the helicopter
Saw the RNLI following him
Seems a bit strange to call a helicopter out for a swimmer who wouldnt come in.
Must be more to it

The gossip is that he'd decided to kill himself
So the crew waited til he'd got too cold, hauled him in, delivered him to shore and off to see the hospital in a chopper

My praises to the RNLI giving up such a nice day to help people in need

Glad it's all ended OK.

The goss just now has it that the demon drink was involved..it was a windsurfer who alerted the authorities, it's said.

The best bit was some fit young Frenchmen taking a dip just now................ :oops:

Just back. We decided to take a post-dinner stroll along the prom just as the drama was ending. We heard that the guy was zipped into a body bag but it's all speculation at this point.

Body bag!! Probably some sort of hypothermia bag?? Did you see an ambulance, Bob? I didn't see one when I went for a neb at the helicopter.

When I were young, my laydee pals and I had a "content, presentation, and star quality" marking system for the male posterior. I think M. Stripey would have been in the top ten [but no-one will ever beat the one playing pool in jeans in a bar in Plockton in 1978 or thereabouts ......................

Looking at some other photos I took [but which I won't publish] there was a polisman trained in "negotiation" on the RNLI craft which explains why the craft zoomed onto the beach then went off again.

He seemed to spend a long time leaning over and talking to the swimmer/

Called to Portobello for a Person In Water

People Assisted: 1 Lives Saved: 1

The lifeboat crew were called to the aid of a man in the water off Portobello beach. The man refused assistance but, due to his condition and the sea temperature the crew were reluctant to leave him. A police negotiator was brought out to assist the crew in convincing the man to accept help, and eventually he did so.

The rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet, Prestwick had arrived on scene and had landed on the beach by this time, with a paramedic on board, and the man was transferred to the helicopter and waiting paramedic. His condition deteriorated rapidly at the time, but he has since made a recovery having been airlifted to hospital by the rescue helicopter.

The lifeboat crew would also like to thank a nearby windsurfer who initially tried to assist the man and waited nearby until the lifeboat arrived.

A longer version on the RNLI site says the man appeared to be known to the police. And I heard that he got out of hospital on Tuesday.

Def. the Kinghorn boys as the long article on the RNLI site is the same as the one on Kinghorn RNLI's own website www.kinghorn.org
