I had that happen with an urgent parcel a couple of years ago. I waited in for it on the Monday, heard the card come through, ran after the postie and said to her "You just shoved a card through, but |I was in, so i'd like my parcel please." She said "I haven't got one for you - they only gave me the card." I said "This card says you just tried to deliver a parcel and I wasn't in. I'm right here." She shrugged and suggested I complain. I didn't get my parcel till the Friday.
I wrote and complained. I had the standard "We are looking into your complaint and will contact you with the result of enquiries" letter back. I never heard from them again. When we called with another complaint 18 months later, we said "And by the way we're still waiting to hear from you about our last complaint." (I'm nothing if not tenacious...

) The guy on the phone said "We didn't do anything about it because you didn't contact us again." We pointed out the letter said they would contact us; he said we should have known that if we didn't hear from them within four weeks, we had to follow it up -
How does that work?
I've never lived anywhere with a worse postal system than Edinburgh.
