Help desperately sought - missing cat

Our cat has gone missing - Portobello High Street - between Marlborough Street and Bellfield Lane. Last seen on Saturday 2/4/05. 12 years old, small and very timid. Getting a bit deaf - which makes her very easily spooked. Apart from being a smoky grey colour all over, the only real distinguishing mark is a small skin growth on the edge of her left ear. Rarely goes out and this is only the second time in 12 years she has been out overnight (first time she returned at 8:05am so we're pretty sure she was locked in somewhere). Please check garden sheds / lock ups etc as there did seem to be quite a bit of 'first gardening of the year' activity over the weekend. Any help greatly appreciated - as I'm sure all pet lovers will know this is a very distressing experience.[/img][/url]

You must be so worried isapdcm, I do hope she comes home soon, I will certainly keep my eyes open for her when I'm out and about.

I live not too far away from you and had a look around when I was out my walk but no sign of her I'm afraid. I'll mention it to some of my neighbours so that they can check their gardens.
I would be distraught if it was my dog that was lost so I can understand how you must feel.

Can you post a pic? I did notice an unusual cat in our back garden yesterday, but it was more dirty white than smoky grey.

Sorry, duplicated last picture. Meant to publish this one. The first picture (on wooden floor - no collar) was several years ago but hopefully gives an idea of size. The second picture (on back of couch) is most recent - and gives a better idea of colour. The last picture (this one) is the best we have of what she typically looks like (but doesn't have the collar anymore). You can see the nodule on her left ear - it's probably about twice that size now (and wobbles a bit).

10:00pm and after one last (for the night) desperate whistle in the back garden a very upset cat came clambering through the dense ivy over a ten foot high wall. Feeling sorry for herself but in good health. What a huge relief. Many thanks to all - and especially if this had anything to do with any of the many people whose doors I knocked on this evening.

Glad your cat came back. Once when I was younger, our cat Ruby went missing from Morton Street for 3 days (all while Mum was down in London running The London Marathon) so Dad, my brother and I searched frantically to find her before Mum got back! Eventually after the 3 days I went for one last shout in the back green in the dark and pouring rain. Like a scene out of a Disney movie, here comes Ruby, limping and with a cut chin, meowing away. Vet said she had most likely been hit by a car

She is OK now and still has the Harrison Ford style chin scar

So pleased that you've got your cat back. I spent today visiting the Cat Protection League and the Cat and Dog Home with my son looking for a prospective pet. The current favourite looks very like your cat isapdcm

Wow... It seems PoL'ers have a preference for the same kind of Cats.... here is our, now unfortunately X-Cat, Peep

Marya, why dont you get a non kitten.... it saves you all the training, a lot of vet fees, insane nights of having it jump on you while you are sleeping and use your head as a scratch post, and teething, where it thinks nothing of eating through a pair of Nike's that you just had to pay over 100 quid for!!! (but thats another story!)

Mrs Catz and myself got a kitten (Willow) and a four year old (Buddy) from the humane society, we adore them both.... but trust me, the four year old is much easier on the stress levels!! :lol:

and you will be saving the non kitten from a early demise!

The grey tom (Basil) that we had decided to take was 4 years old Catz . I wasn't after a kitten for cuteness, but because I want an indoor cat as it is difficult to put a cat flap anywhere (one problem is that the house is listed). Unfortunately, most cats in shelters either seem to be outdoor cats set in their ways or don't like kids.

Anyway, I reluctantly gave up on Edinburgh today and went over to a shelter in the East Neuk of Fife, where we found an adorable, 7 month old, black and white neutered tom. It took us an hour and a half to get there (with me telling my son not to get his hopes up all the way!) but it was worth it as he has the sweetest nature.
At the moment he's exploring his new home and seems astonishingly brave; our last cat hid behind the sofa for the first 3 days after we took him home from the rescue shelter

The only problem now is what to call him. He is called Jake which is totally not him

I'm on the ground floor Poppy but there's all sorts of rules governing windows ,which I confess I haven't looked into. I'm assuming that I can't alter them, but I may be wrong

At the moment my main problem is that he is fascinated by our fireplace...and the chimney :shock:

Homer thinks the worst that can happen is that puss will get sooty but I'm convinced he could get stuck
