On Friday night I watched out of my window as a boy (about 13 or 14ish) tried to kick in the bus stop windows over the road (no point in phoning the Police since he would have been gone in the 5 hours it would have taken them to get there). Try as he might (and he did!) he just couldn't get his foot to go through them - so he then picked up a bottle and tried that - no joy! Eventually he gave up. This just got me thinking that maybe we're winning the war on the bus stop vandals! Whatever it is they're using as 'glass' is working RESULT! (now we just have to use it on the shops!)

I'm disappointed that you didn't call the police about this matter. You're probably right of course, that it was hardly a Grade 1 call and the perpetrator may well have disappeared by the time they got there. On the other hand it may have been a quiet evening and an officer may have attended in time to catch the culprit. In any case, a call to the police would have logged the incident and maybe you could have given a description of the youth involved. It all helps.

I attended the East Edinburgh Neighbourhood Watch Scheme meeting this afternoon and Bob Wardrope, the local Station Inspector highlighted a problem in Argyle Crescent that occurred last summer. He had been blissfully unaware of what had been going on because nobody had thought it was worthwhile reporting.

It's ALWAYS worth phoning the police. Even if they don't make it there on time it helps them to build up a picture of crime in your area and to deploy their resources more effectively. If your quality of life is being affected by youth disturbances or other low-level crimes then please complain and keep complaining. Don't accept it as normal - it isn't and you deserve to be able to live in peace and quiet.

I understand what you're saying Bob and I would normally agree with you. I'm quite a good 'reporter' normally!! However, on this occasion it was all over and done with in a couple of minutes and the small gang ran up Hope Lane. Chances are they don't come from the area and I certainly didn't recognise any of them - if I had they would have got a shouting at like I did the other week when there was a fight.
