You can come in anytime from the 1st of December to the 17th of December and purchase a 12 Day Membership for £12. The pass covers all aspects of our health and fitness facilities, including the Gym, Swimming Pools, Fitness Classes and the Turkish Baths.

If you are likely to come in and use the Turkish Baths in December a £12 day pass would be ideal as one Turkish session costs £6.50! Likewise for the gym and fitness classes, £12 for 12 days is excellent value.

People should be aware that the temperature in the Steam Room of the Turkish Baths doesn't regulate correctly. The temperature ranges from extremely hot to very cool.

There were technical issues relating to the heat cycles in the Steam Room but these have now been resolved. We have had positive feedback regarding the Turkish in the past couple of weeks. Thanks for your feedback and please feel free to pop in and take a nice Turkish Bath in this cold winter snap!

These technical issues have been a bit of a saga. Since the new steam generators were installed in January, the temperature of the steam room has never regulated correctly. I was in the Turkish the other day and it was very cool with absolutely no steam being generated. I don't think the fault has been resolved. I'm not sure who provided the positive feedback, one can only assume they have no sense of temperature.

I always assumed that the steam room wasnt steamy when no-one has been in for a while...once you go in it seems to trigger the process but it does take a wee while to make a difference so next time I will go in just to get it started and then go back 10min later....I do like the coloured lights tho and i think the 12 for £12 is great...I think a leap up to £40 for a monthly membership is too much if you can only get to a class/gym or swim once or twice a week

If the steam is being generated when you enter it is a coincidence and very fortunate as the steam is rarely generated. The steam is generated under the control of the thermal detector (the grey box at the far corner of the room). You regularly see people pour cold water on it to get the steam generating.

Thanks you for the feedback BathSt2! Yes, the £12 deal is really good value if you don't have too much shopping left to do. Even if you do a Turkish is perfect for recovery after!

With regards to the memberships, if you just choose to swim and/or use the Turkish you can purchase a Swim Membership from as little as £14.00 going up to £28.00. The Swim Membership is very flexible and you are not tied into a minimum term contract.

Edinburgh Leisure are also looking into gym only and fitness class only memberships, although this is currently unavailable. This may be available in the future though. The £12 pass would give you full use of all our gyms, pools, fitness classes, Saunas, Steam Rooms and of course the Turkish. You can also use the Royal Commonwealth Pool with the pass.

In reposnse to Storky, if the Steam Room varies from cool to extremely hot, how can it be possible for Steam to be rarely generated? There was a fault with gauging the temperature, granted, but there have been no complaints with regards to the Turkish temperature since the work carried out to adjust steam output. If you could fill in a customer comment with any complaints that would be very helpful. If you see people pouring water on the detector, you should really report this as this is really not helpful and could be damaging to the system.

Simple: the steam piles in for a couple of minutes and makes the temperature almost unbearable. Then the steam turns off for around 30 minutes which means the room cools down to too low a temperature. This means that the steam is on for around 5% off the time, hence the comment "steam is rarely generated".

In a properly operating steam room, the steam is applied constantly (at a gentle rate) maintaining a nicely regulated temperature. If your unclear how it should work pop up to Bannatynes and check their steam room out.

I'm going for a second one once this one expires! Am interested in cheaper membership or specialist as you mention above...dont know i would get use of full one but after this month who knows!!

Why would someone take a 12 day pass starting today if it expires on the 17th December? Would it not make sense to extend the expiry date to say the 24th December?

No no no Storky! It's not that at all. If you purchase the 12 day pass today, you will get 12 days usage from the card. Thats why it's called a 12 Day Pass!

The offer officially expires on the 17th of December. This is because this is the last day you will receive full 12 Day usage from the card (We are closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day).

However, you are more than welcome to buy a pass on the 18th or past this date for £12, it's just that you wouldn't actually receive the full 12 days from the pass. However, if you are going to use the centre a lot in this time, it could save you money!

What is the status of the Turkish Baths, in particular the steam room? I was in on Monday and it was working well: a nice constant gentle steam at a well regulated temperature Then I was in on Tuesday and it was back to normal - not working

To say the Steam Room is 'not working' is untrue.

The Steam Room is working fine, I was myself in there last night, and it was just the trick after a good training session. The Plunge Pool was 'refreshing'

Now, if you have any more comments Storky, please let us know at the centre, because there if very little we can respond to if you remain quiet then wait to express your opinion here!
