PEDAL - Closure of Straiton Place for Street Party?

Just received a flyer about the Portobello Car Free Day which is due to be held on Sunday 19th September 1.30 - 4.00 p.m.

They are also planning to hold a street party :

[[/color]"Bottom of Bath Street by the Prom. We are hoping to section off some of Straiton Place on Sunday 19th from 2-4 p.m so we can safely have an area to use as "car free".

Could you please let us know how you might feel about closing off Straiton Place to traffic for a street party between 2 - 4pm on that day. We would love to be able to have a small area of road to have the above activities and street party on the Sunday 19th September, but only if residents in the area are happy with this. We have provisionally asked the Council and may be granted permission for road closure"

What's wrong with using the grassy areas on Straiton Place?

Update - [PEDAL] " have decided not to apply for a road closure order for Striation Place, but rather for the end of Bath Street only (from the Prom to the junction with Straiton Place). Therefore (and slightly ironically) our Car Free Day event will have no impact on people's ability to drive along Straiton Place via either Bath St or Regent St. The event will last for a total of 2 hours on Sunday.

We have previously held Car free Day in parks and on areas of paving but felt that this rather defeats the point. There is no better way to help people understand that we can (and may one day have to) live without our cars than a road closure."
