Portobello Transition Town - PEDAL and Greener Leith would like to thank everyone who supported their bid for Energyshare funding. They won against almost 1000 other UK medium -sized projects. Tom Black from PEDAL says: "A huge thank you to everyone on your mailing list who voted for the project in the Energyshare competition." The project, a collaboration between neighbouring community groups Pedal - Portobello Transition Town and Greener Leith, aims to build a community-owned wind turbine on the Seafield Waste Water Treatment Site in Edinburgh. The prize is funding to complete feasibility work on the wind turbine, which is expected to go to planning permission during 2012. The Energyshare.com contest is a collaboration between River Cottage and British Gas which awards a total of £500,000 to community renewables projects on the basis of online votes.
Les Solley from the Kings Manor Hotel tells me their Charity Night raised £1700, which was split among the charities Help for Heroes, Mutu Nepal, Water Aid and the post natal depression unit across the road at at Queen's Bay. Thanks to all who supported this one!
There is a public consultation event on traffic and parking on Marlborough Street, Belfield Street, Regent Street, Straiton Place and Bath Street on 14 December (next Wednesday) evening . Drop in between 5pm and 7pm at Portobello Town Hall, 147-149 Portobello High Street. This is the follow-up to the consultation event in May this year.
