Stop the Superstore Chants

Be bold folks and find those creative instincts, even if you have to dig deep into those memories to when you were in P2 - we need Stop the Superstore Chants, and songs (songs help you keep your voice!) by Sat (so by Friday night really) for the demo on Sat 3rd April 11am by the Porty Town Hall. (anyone got a megaphone or guitar,whistle, drums etc do bring) Here's one or two offerings:

"Portobello Not for sale - superstores can go to hell"

"One, Two, Three, Four, We don't want your superstore,
Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Don't leave Porty in a state"

"We can't take it, We can't hack it,
We don't want your supermarket"

"What do we want? No superstore..
When do we want it? NEVER!"

Verses 3 - 200! substitute for lorry anything you like that's bad and associated with superstores

Right here's some challenges to you for verses: (or think of your own tunes as long as people know them!) - nothing rude or libellous (at least on this page) please!

To the tune of Bob the Builder? etc - you don't have to stick to nursery rhymes! hymn tunes, carols, pop songs, adverts etc will do just as well - and it could be about what we do want as well.... C

well I'll keep my latest and even better songs to myself! - inspired by the nursery nurses strike and those of us who were privileged to hear them sing to nursery rhymes outside the Scottish Parliament know that you have to use everything you've got - we haven't got money on OUR side so we have to use creativity - feel free to suggest other ways of expressing our views folk please - in the meantime I will keep my songs to myself and for the day for those who want to use this way of expressing our views - the rest can do it their way - stand in silence - why not, women in black very effectively do this on demos against the war- you just have to organise it though as I like a bit of noise, enthusiasm and fun - remember the dreary days of Thatcher and trudging along, feeling hopeless, shouting Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, Out,Out,Out - never really feeling we could get her out - well we can make more of a difference now and of course it doesn't come down to singing but everything helps - whether its writing letters, making speeches, of which I hope there will be a couple from MSPs and campaigns, and whatever else ECM and others would like to contribute - you would be welcome to do so in your own way --- but come to the demo on Sat 3rd April 11am outside the Porty Town Hall and gather with others who are opposed to the superstore here..

well, I'd love to be there but unfortunately, I'll be down at Tesco in Musselburgh doing the shopping around that time.
I love shopping at Tesco but sadly, for the moment, it means a bit of a round trip and bus fares as I don't drive.

This has been the most entertaining thread for some time. I think the important thing, as Carla suggests, is that people are there to show support. I personally won't be banging drums, blowing whistles or chanting nursery rhymes, although I did suggest that perhaps we approach local musicians to help provide a party atmosphere.

Anyway, for those of you like me who are FAR too embarrassed to sing anything to the tune of 'nik nak paddy wak' (in public?!?) I suggest the alternative of a 'silent vigil' and you might wish to consider this action to be, er, symbolic of our lack of voice in the planning procedure.

The lovely Carla has managed, by a route involving a dead letter drop and a highly secret signalling system (which involves, among other things, a garden gnome, chalk markings and discarded bottles of Dasani) to contact Surrealist Towers. She asked if I would host these photographs for her, and I am only happy to oblige her nascent underground cell in disseminating its propaganda.....

thanks surrealist - I think everyone should come away from their pcs, get some fresh air and come to the demo! but glad someone picked up on my pics when I emailed them out to CATs folk. Sorry if you didn't get them direct to you - a lot of pcs wouldn't accept them and thought I was sending them a virus - but I am not like that despite surrealist's wilder dreamings! Bob - you never know you may enjoy remembering some nursery rhymes, but if we want to have a silent wing that's fine by me - we'll have posters to hold so people know what you are protesting about or bring hand made ones even better ....pcats have invited musicians but don't know if they can come. I think we have an accordionist but she might bail out with stage fright !There was a small piece in the Evg Snooze today (p 19) but unfortunately no time given- however all publicity is to be welcomed. We hope at least 2 if not 3 MSPs will be there so make sure you all are - 11am sharp, or a little before, at the Porty TownHall - so we have a good crowd for the MSPs arriving..... think of this as a warm up for the big demo/day when we need to protest outside the City Chambers, if the application is not being recommended for rejection. I think we should protest there whatever the recommendation....I just hope we don't have to spend the next 10 years fighting planning application after planning application like the island that has just won the final battle against a superquarry destroying their hills...what a lot of nonsense......and greed again...but I'll save that for tomorrow
