A liitle rebel has been born and the tenacious liitle darling let her mum know right from the start who is boss. "Too smart to suffer" Mum wanted 31st May to be the day (Dada, was there a notable Socialist born on this day or maybe an important anniversary?) but Gabby thought otherwise. "I'm going to be born naturally" thought the pre-infant." "Dad will be proud of me, although I guess he won't be telling anyone as he values his family's privacy."

In terms of admission; contrast Jack with Tommy Charlattan: Tommy went on every news and politics show denying any personal issue or any party disenchantment.

Perhaps they didn't need too - They know him much better than you and I, he is, I'm sure - more than capable of handling any inferences to his personal life without involving other's.

He also threatened ony several occassions that he would sue the News of the Screws for lots and lots of money.

If the News of the Screw's had anything on him - do you honestly believe that they would not have used it? Get real.

There are lots of interesting issues here, but they are perhaps in danger of being overshadowed by the perpetual chess game of our respective personal prejudices. Porty is as guilty of this for New Labour as I am for the SSP.

If the SSP as a whole are guilty of anything, it's of acting exactly the same as the rest of the herd of political types, for example if Brown & Blair are allowed to have their Granita moment and deny it happened (or just not divulge what was said) then everyone else gets to do it too - or if a member of the press during the election campaign asks Gordon Brown if he would have acted the same way over Iraq as Blair did, and answers "yes", then even though everyone knows he said it because he had to, not because it is necessarily true, he can get away with it, due to some unwritten rule or other.

There are two aspects to Porty's attack. One is a bit of throwaway knee-jerk bias which is wasting our time and insulting our intelligence, the other is a much more intelligent commentary on spin and the difference between what is said in the press by politicians and what is actually going on.

I will always address politics, but the personal only when it directly impinges on a political debate. I've never once started to talk about any aspects of Blair's personal life - my criticism of him mainly centres around
philosophical betrayal and the use of cluster bomblets on children.

Some personal aspects of the Sheridan debate have to be talked about, but some are gutter journalism of the News Of The World level which are *oh so* easy to fabricate and more complicated to disprove, but failure to litigate seems to equate guilt in Porty's eyes - or maybe not - but anyway the damage is done.

In my mind there is no objective difference between the sophisticated attempts by more syllabic journals to smear (like the Galloway stuff) and the rubbish aimed at Sheridan - what interests me much more is the reaction - do you (a) : realise that the establishment have been slinging muck at people who represent any sort of threat, small or large, for a very long time; or do you (b) express righteous indignation that politicians who you disagree with should conduct themselves in a manner exactly the same as the politicians you support, but don't criticise because they are batting for your team?

Porty judges Galloway and Sheridan with a completely different wig than the one he dons for his establishment chums, which is a shame. It's almost making me start to understand what it must be like to be a young black male in London.

It's also sad becuse it means that we waste our time on rubbish when we could be talking about the issues that the charismatic tanned leftists undoubtedly stand for.

I know plenty about the executive meeting that saw Tommy "resign" to "spend more time with his family", but for as long as Porty is more interested in the contents of this or that politicians' underwear instead of their heads, for as long as he uses different yardsticks for different flavours of politician and for as long as he allows himself to be manipulated by media playground tales I will find somebody/something else to talk to/about.
