Favourite takeaway

I'm a confirmed meat eater so my recommendations are second-hand, but I have veggie friends who eat regularly at St Andrews Restaurant, and the Blue Bean cafe.

The new Pizza Hut (takeaway only) has good veggie options, but has encountered some opposition on the forum because of concerns about global multinationals driving locally-owned businesses out of business.

No-one has mentioned Carlo's on the High Street. When I first came to live here, there was not a good chippie - horror of horrors - then Carlo's opened and saved my life. On a bitterly cold winter's night, their delivery service is a godsend, and their staff are always friendly. They also do wonderful pizzas - to my taste, anyhow. And they have all sorts of other dishes you can try.

I used to be a devote of the Chi Wai, but have not been along there for a while, and am somewhat perturbed to hear that it is under new ownership ......... Especially as I will have to think of places to feed visitors, now summer is here. Any suggestions, other than 'The Old Pier' and the St. Andrew. (I also had a fairly disastrous meal in the St. Andrew about five years ago.)

As a semi-veggie - I eat fish - I have never found any trouble getting dishes without meat in them in Porty, and I do agree that Findlay's veggie haggis is superb.

PS What a good suggestion that we put in links to those eateries and take-aways that have websites - then someone can go round and try them out and recommend them. It's the kind of information visitors would like on the Poty site

Another vote for Mr India - we have enjoyed a few deliveries from there and enjoy savouring different tastes rather than merely different multicoloured hues of the same nondescript stuff.

Dragon Way have been responsible for the worst eat-in meal I have ever had - no matter what we ordered it tasted like cornflour. And then, confusingly, delivered a really nice takeaway just the other week, thus averting a domestic as I was giving the other half a roasting for even putting income their way again.

We've really enjoyed a couple of take-aways from Spices recently.
Their starter portions are huge!
Everything is freshly made so you may wait 15 mins or so for your order but it's well worth it.
Word of warning though - the Seekh kebab is very hot/spicy compared to any other place I've tried but then I'm a Korma kind of person!
