The other morning, between the Ormelie and Eastfield, I counted 9 buses sitting waiting in the queue

This morning was completely ridiculous. I'm not sure if temporary traffic lights are in operation in Joppa but getting out of Windsor Place in the car took twenty minutes. When we finally did move the traffic moving in an easterly direction towards Joppa was backed up almost to Kings Road. I know of one individual on Milton Road who ended up parking and walking in to Portobello and got there before a bus he passed on Duddingston Park South. Hopefully this was just a one off or I'll end up having to leave for work at 7am!

The traffic all round seemed heavier than ever this morning.
Glancing up Brighton Place I could see lorries on the brige obviously queuing to go UP Harry Lauder Road as well as down.
The congestion wasn't helped by cars ignoring the box junctions at High St/ Bath St either.
Poor Mr Soupy, coming home along Seafield Road every evening must be raising his blood pressure!

Is this the councils revenge for not getting congestion charges voted through? Create as much congestion as possible. But why make the east of Edinburgh suffer so much?

Aye, was great this morning. I've tended to walk down Abercorn and the High St, past many buses, and onto a bus at the Town Hall or the stop before. This morning I walked past eight buses I think. Traffic was certainly backed up past Eastfield.

There's really no way of getting out of Porty with out getting held up at road works or the knock on effect of them.
The emergency works at the Jewel may have gone but there's still temporary lights at the crossroads leading to the Wisp, so hold ups.road works past Holyrood High then temp lights at Craigmillar, so hold ups, and Milton Road well documented

I came up from musselburgh this morning in a bus and it took from hotel (cant remember its name) on the milton road to the roundabout 40minutes. I travel up there 7 days a week and since the roadworks started, this morning was the worst of all. It would help the buses if no cars were allowed to park on the same side of the hotel, and they would have a clear road straight through. Please all you residents along that stretch of the road park on the other side.

I feel quite reassured by this thread and seeing I wasn't the only one who suffered on Friday...but it does seem aprticularly unfair since I'm not a car owner!

I had to get to Rosewell on Friday afternoon. Happily, I realised I can get the bus from porty right there, but there's ony one an hour. I duly figured out that to arrive in time I needed to get the 2.20 bus. Standing at the bus stop at 2.20, along came a 49, but it didn't say Rosewell on it... "Are you not going to Rosewell?" asks I. "Correct" says the driver, unhelpfully. "Er...is that a no?" "Yes." Then he told me the next 49 would be the one for Rosewell, and it was running, like him, 25 minutes late. Bugger, thought I. So rather than wait 25 mins, I trundled off to the bank, and then thought 2 minutes in Kitcheners (totalling six minutes from the previous 49...) seemed like a good plan. Until I saw the 49 to Rosewell go sailing past. I figured I could cross the road, get the first 42 or 21 to Cameron Toll, and hope to catch the 49 there. Imagine my dismay at Niddrie Mill, realising that not only was I likely to miss the 49 for the second time, I was also now going to have to wait in the middle of nowhere for another hour. I could have kissed the bad tempered driver when the right 49 did in fact turn up (later now than in Porty) and I made it to Rosewell in time, if rather flustered.

But i couldn't believe it took me exactly two hours to get from Porty to Sheriffhall roundabout thanks to the council and LRT buses. :roll:

God, how long and boring is this post? About as long and boring as my trip to rosewell.

So earlier today I got an email from Maureen Child saying HLR would be shut this weekend for essential maintenence.

Then just now I got another email with a correspondance from Andy Matheson (Roads Manager) ECC- I think :

"I regret to inform you that this road closure has now been suspended until further notice.

The road will now remain open to the public.

Brilliant,

It highlights how disappointed he is that he cannot cause a weekend of traffic havoc. He's probably going to get in trouble for allowing the roads to remain open...

In any case what sort of "essential verge maintenance" would justify closing a major road with less than one day notice?

Verge maintenance = cutting grass, yeah?
