Mr. Arachnid gets the old one!!!! Although he did get a new monitor!!! :wink:

The printer/copier/scanner/fax in the second pic is my other new toy!!

So for those of you with a decent camera (i.e. one with a large enough aperture to take a decent night photo).

I reckon that (if the sky is clear) there will be an awesome photo opportunity at around 7.15pm tonight on the beach.

The moon should be full and rising over Cockenzie*. I'm going to take my camera out, but it's a cheapy digital job, so the photos probably wont come out very well.

*Based on the almost full moon rising at around this time last night.

Edit: I've found a calculator :

looks like rise is going to be at 20.17 and about 10 degrees further east. Should still get a good photo around 20.45. if you can be bothered going out that late.

This was Thursday in the Lake District. We had decided to do the classic Fairfield Horseshoe walk from Ambleside. It's a 10.5 mile walk with a total ascent of 3450 feet. The first 3 hours of our walk were all uphill. The rain became steadily heavier and the mist became so dense that visibility was down to about 20 metres. We were overtaken by an Irish guy who was doing the same route. Just before we made the highest point of the walk we met him again. He had lost his way in the mist and had abandoned the walk and was returning the way he came with another couple he had met. This didn't augur well but we pressed on. A little later, just as we were about to head off on the wrong path ourselves, the mist began to clear from right to left and the path ahead revealed itself, along with a spectacular view of the valley below.

Several hours later, as we were making our way back to our accommodation, we met our Irish friend again in a local hostelry. He had got lost again on the way back, ended up several miles off route and had hitched a lift back to Ambleside.

After doing the uphill, double hairpin bends on single track road ( Bealach na Ba ) we were rewarded by this at the side of the road

Nice. Drove past Duddingston Loch on the way home. It has frozen over and now there is a blanket of snow lying on top of the ice.

Did anyone get photos of the snow-covered beach yet? My wife tells me that there was an army of snowmen there yesterday, which must have looked very bizarre. Wangi?
