As part of the Council’s requirement to annually review service performance, Audit Scotland carries out a review based on national performance indicators. The good news is that this year we continued to build on recent improvements, and have demonstrated the strongest overall rate of service improvement over the last three years of all the Scottish urban local authorities.

It is a rigorous process, made even more difficult in today’s ever changing environment, so the recognition is a welcomed step towards our aim of being a top-performing organisation. Results show that the Council, as a whole, is working hard to improve public services and that the effort is being recognised.

Areas where performance saw marked improvement in the past three years include:

roads maintenance
street cleanliness
housing repairs
academic achievement of looked-after children

This is an achievement that all staff are to be proud of. Of the 80 statutory performance indicators, 77% were rated better than average.

The last paragraph makes positive reading. Not that Im here to defend CEC. I have my own complaints about CEC.
