Sorry but I think this discussion is losing the point slightly. My issue is with dog poo and the antisocial nature of it when left behind and not picked up. My petition is about trying to find a way to encourage people not to do this. I agree the majority of dog owners are responsible. If people have issues with children and their behaviour there is nothing to stop you launching your own petition. I am not going to bother posting on here again regarding this, and I am extremely sorry if I have offended anyone through trying to do my own small bit to try to make our environment nicer.

Maybe the idea of a dog DNA database would make some owners more responsible if they thought there was a big chance they would be held acccountable.
But I suspect if a dog owner isn't going to pick up after their dog they're not going to get it registered.
Still the idea has stimulated debate

Yes it really was a tip.

I think it's great to see the youngsters enjoying themselves on the beach with a drink and a barbie but the mess of plastic and glass bottles this morning was ridiculous. It would only take them 5 minutes to clear up behind themselves and everyone would be happy.

How about everyone starts carrying a stick of chalk and we draw a wide circle around any abandoned dog doo with a large "WARNING - DOG POO" written five feet in each direction?

Similar to the idea of cyclists carrying a can of fluorescent spray paint to flag big pot holes...

Years ago my Granda was locked in a war with his local council. They wouldn't do anything about the Grand Canyon like potholes in his road. He rallied some cronies and made tourist signs inviting passers by to "visit the scenic potholes". It ended up in local papers and eventually on tv. The council fixed the potholes.

That spot where the hulk is - happens to be a firm favourite with whoever's dog does the really black poos - the need to give their dog a more varied diet as well as clean up after it! One day - will catch them on camera - also hoping to catch the 'turd meister' who lets their dog actually keek on the side of our house - come on.....its particularly nasty. This one though has a small dog and I don't think they live too far from us - we're closing in on you if you're reading.......You'll be on you tube v. soon.

So, elkanary - now that you have been outed by the press, I realise that you are the same person who organised the community clear-up of the snow just a few months ago. I like your style. Community activism begins, literally, on the streets.

Cheers Bob, community pro-activism maybe. The pavement gritting was a lot of fun and to be honest so's the dog poo Chalk of Shame. Neither took up much time and both have a direct benefit to me. It feels good to contribute. I don't mind picking up a bit of litter while I'm out and about but I draw the line (literally) at picking up someone else's dog cack. I'd love it if everyone took to carrying a stick of chalk and writing quick warnings for fellow pedestrians.

I stopped to write up some dog apples on Saturday and a concerned resident shouted from across the road "If you're that bothered you should phone the council". I'm not sure what he meant by "that bothered" and it's been bothering me ever since. "THAT bothered". It felt like he was saying that my level of botherdness was too high. And what does he think the council should do?

I find the 'that bothered' thing really interesting.

I seem to come across people all the time that think that things are somebody else's problem or somebody else's job to sort out - its all of our problem and I love your initiative.

Its got more publicity for the dog keek problems of Porty in a week than an environmental warden could ever achieve.
