Hi.
My name is Matthew Johnson. I am an Architect who was made redundant at the end of 2009 but recently set up my own practice based from my home in Portobello. I want to use this post to highlight my involvement with a scheme called Architect in the House 2010, and to publicise what is proving to be a successful new small business despite the recession.
Architect in the House is an innovative scheme that matches homeowners with an RIBA or RIAS chartered architect who gives up an hour of their time for a design consultation. In exchange, the homeowner makes a suggested minimum donation of £40 to Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity. Over the past 13 years, Architect in the House has raised £800,000 helping thousands of families to find and keep their homes.
If you are interested in the scheme I would encourage you to visit the website at
www.architectinthehouse.org.uk
More and more people are choosing to improve rather than move, and architects can add a huge amount to any home improvement project, however big or small. Whether that means just knocking a wall down, or a whole new extension, an architect will expertly interpret your ideas and maximise any investment to realise the true potential of your property.
