It was originally intended to a be a one-off event that combined both a social occasion and a fund raising event but its popularity means that 2012 sees the 5th Annual St James’ Sports Night taking place at 7-30 pm on Friday 18th May at St James' Church Hall, Rosefield Place, Portobello (located just off Brighton Place, location details can be found at http://www.stjamesparishchurch.org.uk).
Hosted by BBC Football Commentator Paul Mitchell, the evening features a “Question of Sport” where the guests split into two teams, just like the television series, try to outwit each other answering questions that are displayed on the big screen for all to see. The rounds include ‘what happened next’, the picture round, home &away and the popular 'spot the connection' round. The ‘audience’ don’t just get to watch but they get to take part in their own knockout game and this year we are looking doing an additional quiz round for the children that attend.
After the Question of Sport, we’ll have a short break and the traditional football fare of Pies and Bovril will be available for purchase.
We then have a Football Forum with the opportunity to ask our guests anything connected with the beautiful game or indeed with sport in general. As always there will be a few great stories from our guests.
Our guests have loved coming along to do battle in the quiz and both of last year’s captains wanted a rematch so former Hearts player Allan Preston goes head to head with former Hibs player Steve Cowan. It’s sure to be a great night as they lead their teams into battle where winning isn’t important – it’s everything !!!!
Tickets are priced £5 and are available by sending an e-mail to the St James’ mailbox (mailbox@stjamesparishchurch.org.uk) or you can pay at the door. Children (suitable for age 10+) are £1 , so long as they are accompanied by an adult.
If you have come along before then please come again and bring a friend along. If you haven’t been, you don’t need to be really into sport to enjoy the fun.
