Anyone going along to see FLC / Echo & the Bunnymen at Newhailes House on Friday 5 August?

Or The Rat Pack plus Antony Costa on the 6th?

Or Amici Forever and The Orchestra of Scottish Opera on Sunday 7th?

Phew, fairly packing them in - I'd love to see something, but alas I'll be busy in York instead on my stag!

Ali and I are going to see Fun Loving Criminals and Macca and co.

I'm really looking forward to it. I hear they (Bunnymen) played well at T in the Park but I managed to miss all of the coverage of their set.

I saw Macca being interviewed and he looked well enough for a guy who alledgedly lives the drugs part of the rock and roll lifestyle to the full.

I'm just concerned about the weather. I really don't relish standing in the rain for several hours.

Wangi, you could relocate your stag weekend to Newhailes or would that be a bit too close to home for comfort. :wink:

Well, it was a great evening.

The weather stayed dry and not too cold. The bar was selling Jack Daniels and I didn't need to use the chemical loos.

Result!

Mr. Macca and his Bunnymen were in fine form and the set included all the favourites. The sound was a little muddy though.
Macca did his usual - chain smoked and swaggered around and talked incoherently between numbers.
He slagged off Newhailes House as being a bit second rate and then ended the set by ranting at a member of the audience and ripping into Colin Henry ????????

Anyway a couple of pics of the beloved, loud-mouthed Liverpudlian.

And what to say about da Fun Lovin' Criminals?
They were superb. The sound for their set was sharp as a tack and they had the crowd jumping right from the start.

Huey is just soooo cool. He looked well sharp in his suit and tie and has a great way with audiences. He kept asking "How yus dooin'?" in his nasal Noo Yoik accent. He also asked God to bless us many, many times throughout the set.
Which was nice. :lol:

There was much dancing and audience participation and it was all over too quickly.

Everything seemed well organised for the event although sales of tickets had been disappointing. There had been 6,000 tickets for sale and only 2,000 or so were sold. I think lack of publicity was the reason behind this.
It would be a great venue for similar events but so much depends on the weather for these things.
I do hope they schedule more stuff like this.

Well, we did not get TOO wet and it had dried up by the time Anthony Costa [of whom I've never heard but apparently he was once in a beat combo called Blue of whom I have heard but can't name any of their hits] came on and then the Rats. Very good indeed, esp Sammy D.

It was a very middle-aged audience and it seemed that every second person had their picnic in an M&S coolbag. We were one of the few who had not brought folding chairs - we doubt there are any left in the shops today after everyone rushed to buy one for Newhailes yesterday when they saw the rain.

We were all highly amused when a man abseiled down the roof of the stage to clear the rainwater - a massive sheet of which landed on and drenched two Anthony Costa groupies!! :twisted:

Having got a taste for large houses we went to Gosford House today - I can see the upper floor from my house so it was interesting to see the whole thing close up! Amazing grounds too.

BTW when we had resolved a mix up re taking alcohol in [Saga Riot averted at the last minute] one of the security supervisors told me it was a very nice crowd on Friday - not very r'n'r, Ecm!! :wink:
