My poor injured bike...

Had the cycle booked in for a service this morning at TBC. Was the normal ritual "you'll need a new chain, cassette, pads are worn, shocks are seized, ..." (normal toil of a commuter bike). I was saying main complaint was lateral movement on the crank while cycling, plus noise... Couldn't see much wrong with the crank. The break right through two aluminium tubes might explain it.





I had been cycling on it for at least 2 weeks like that.

It's now with Alpine for them to resolve the "lifetime warranty" on the frame.

Blooming heck Wangi! You're lucky it wasn't you that was injured. Looks like a replacement frame job. Is it a Cannondale?

Its a Gary Fisher. Funny enough even though I'd been cycling it for 2 weeks like that I walked from Canonmills to Stockbridge.

Cycle shops often seem to sell bikes on the basis of the strength of the frame and I always thought to myself, "I've never seen a frame break?"!

Did a sudden impact cause this?

StarVanMan - likewise I'd never thought about cracking a bike frame! No big bumps at all; I've had a fair share of knocks on the bike but nothing recent.

Gary Fisher offered a replacement frame (actually a frame) or cash toward another GF or Trek bike... Have opted for the cash... putting it towards a bike better suited to my needs these days (old fart!).

I had a similar problem with my last bike - the repairs came to more than a new bike... So I donated my old one over to the Bike Station, and bought a new one.
